Punjabi University T.P.D Malwa college is situated amid the pollution free serene ambiance on Phul road, five kilometer away from Rampura Phul. It came into existence in 1968 owing to the untiring efforts of people of Phul, Mehraj and Rampura and the visionary guidance of Saint Sohan Das. The institute is spread across an area of 45 acres donated by the villages- Mehraj and Phul. It had been named after Tapsvi Puran Das and was taken over by Punjabi University, Patiala on April 7, 2005.
Under the aegis of Punjabi University and the support of people of the area, Punjabi University TPD Malwa College has established itself as the best Educational institute in the Malwa region, dedicated to nurture the talent and aspiration of the vibrant rural youth by imparting affordable quality education and providing wholesome learning opportunities with student centred approach. Owing to the able guidance and vision of the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean and the Registrar of Punjabi University, along with providing quality education, in college emphasizes laid on Cultural activities, games, NCC, NSS and other extra-curricular activities for multifaceted development of the students so as to prepare them to cope up with the fast changing modern
I am highly thankful to the Vice-Chancellor for providing highly qualified and experienced faculty, the required infrastructure and facilities so that the college can serve the society by transforming the rural youth in to best students, dynamic players and good citizens.
It’s a matter of honour for me to inform that our college is running a host of courses successfully. These include B.A, B.Com, BCA, B.Sc. (Non. Med.), B.Sc.(MCM), PGDCA, PGDD&T, PGDAMM, M.Sc.(IT), M.A. (Punjabi & History).
Uniqueness of this college, in comparison to other private institutes, lies in the fact that it offers a long list of optional subjects (16 subjects) to the students of B.A to select the subjects of their choice. Along with providing bus pass facility, special buses have also been arranged for the students. Specialized teacher /coaches are arranged to prepare students for various cultural and sports activities which enables students to secure positions at university, national and international level competitions. N.S.S and N.C.C camps are organized which contributes a lot in enhancing the personality of students.
Various UGC sponsored projects are also being run for the support and benefit of rural youth such as remedial coaching, service coaching centre, carrier counseling centre etc. for SC & BC students. All these schemes will be helpful in developing the personality of students and will lead our college to new heights. I hope that Punjabi University officials, faculty and students of the college and residents of the area with work together for promoting quality education and the betterment of area.
Sports Department of college provides all the facilities including the grounds and sports material required for various games Hockey, Volleyball, Football, Boxing etc. to the students. Teams of the college keep participating and wining positions in various competitions. The college has produced many players of university, state, national and International level who have brought laurels to the college as well as this area.
To inculcate the spirit of healthy competition, true sportsmanship and promote the participation of students in various sports and games house system has been introduced. Various inter-house sports competitions and march-past are organized and the winner house is awarded a special trophy. Along with Special facilities like Fee Concession, financial support, Special Diet, College- color, Roll of Honour etc are given according to University norms to the students for their achievements at university, state and national level.
A well equipped gymnasium is also available at college campus for the students to keep themselves physically fit.
College has a spacious well furnished library stocked with text and reference books on various subjects. It is kept updated by adding latest publications on various subjects in different languages. In the reading rooms of library students can concentrate on their studies during their free time along with going through all the major newspapers and magazines of English, Punjabi and Hindi. Library Books are issued to the students for 14 days.
College magazine Parwaj is an attempt to nurture creativity and self expression among the students. It provides a platform to the budding writers to put forth their thoughts and feelings and pen down their experiences. Annually published college magazine reflects multifarious activities in which students are involved along with detailing their achievements in various fields. Different sections of College Magazine are edited by Student Editors under the guidance of various Teacher co-editors and editor in chief.
Through its Youth Welfare Department, the college provides opportunities to the students to showcase and develop their artistic talents. Various talent hunt competitions are organized at college campus. Efforts are made to ensure the participation of students in various inter college and university level competitions. Various educational tours are also organized to acquaint the students with culture and traditions of different parts of our country. Prof. Michal Khindo is the incharge of Youth Welfare Department of the college.
To impart practical knowledge and experience to the students, college has well equipped Physics, Chemistry, Fashion Designing, Psychology and Computer labs.
Every student is provided an Identity card and it is compulsory /Mandatory for students to keep their Id Card with them without which they will not be allowed to enter in the college campus.
The parents of every student of the college are the integral part of this institute through Parent Teacher Association. A general body meeting in held in August to form a committee for the smooth the functioning of Parent Teacher association.
Under the chairmanship of Principal, Dr. Amajit Singh Sidhu, an anti ragging committee has been working in college for many years. Its members include: Dr. Suman Sharma, Prof. Neetu Aggarwal, Dr. Michael Khindo, Prof. Baljinder Singh and Prof. Rimpi Rani. Owing to the effective functioning of this committee no case has been registered for so far.
College has an NCC unit of boys and girls and working under 20th Punjab Batallion, Bathinda. Our students have secured innumerable B and C certificates with their spirit of social service and discipline. Many of our cadets are serving the country by joining armed forces. Prof. Kanwarjeet Singh is the incharge of this unit.
College has three units of NSS with Dr. Suman Sharma, Prof. Neetu Aggarwal and Dr. Bhupinder Singh as unit incharges. Our NSS volunteers keep organizing camps in college campus as well as nearby villages to generate awareness regarding various social evils, Health issues, AIDS, Drugs etc. Blood donation camps are also organized by NSS volunteers.
College provides bus pass facility to the students and special buses have also been arranged for the students.
