Department of Education at Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda was established by Punjabi University, Patiala in the year 2001 to cater to the educational needs of this educationally backward region of Punjab. Initially, B.Ed. course was introduced in this department as at that time, there were only two colleges of education affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala offering this secondary teacher training course. In 2006, M.Ed. course was also started in the Department with the aim of developing teacher educators. Since its inception, the Department has remained committed to impart quality teacher education to the students coming from almost all parts of the state of Punjab. The Department has been striving towards developing professionally-equipped and reflective teachers and teacher educators.
The Department has the requisite infrastructural facilities as per the norms and standards set by National Council for Teacher Education. The Department has four well-equipped classrooms. Besides, it has well-equipped Resource Rooms for Educational Psychology, Educational Technology and ICT, Physical Education, Mathematics and Science, Art and Craft.
The departmental library has a collection of about 5000 books on different fields of the discipline of education. The library subscribes five journals, five magazines and three newspapers. A Book Bank is also working in the department. Here books are made available to the needy students and are issued to them for the whole semester.
Department of Education at Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda was established in June, 2001. Since its inception, a large number of students have obtained their B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from this department. It is matter of pride for the department that most of its pass-outs have been appointed as teachers and teacher educators in government and private institutions. Besides, a considerable number of these students have opted for further education.
It has been felt that in order to keep in touch with the old students and to maintain a sense of belongingness to the department among them, an Alumni Association of the Department need to be formed. The department has gathered the required information about the old students and has prepared their session-wise lists. It is in the process of forming Alumni Association in the near future.
