About The Department
Date of Establishment of the Department:2003
The Basic and Applied Sciences branch came into being with establishment of the University College of Engineering in 2003 at the Punjabi University Campus. This branch got the status of independent department in Sept., 2013. The department offers foundation courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Communicative English and Management to the B. Tech. and Five year Engineering Management Integrated Programme students. Besides, the department also offers some other courses such as Numerical Methods and Applications and operation research to the students. The theoretical aspects of different subjects are supported by well equipped labs in Physics and Chemistry for imparting practical skills. Recently, a digital language lab has been established in the department to inculcate soft skills in the students. Additionally, the subjects of Environmental Science and Road Safety and Punjabi Language are also offered by the department. There are 26 faculty members in the department and all are actively involved in research work in their respective fields of specialization. Some of the faculty members have research projects and are also guiding Ph.D. students. The department is supported by nine Technical /non-teaching staff.

ਇਹ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸੁੰਤਤਰ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਲ 2013 ਤੋਂ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਾਲ 2003 ਤੋਂ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਯੂ.ਸੀ.ਓ.ਈ. ਦਾ ਭਾਗ ਸੀ)
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੇਸਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਲਾਇਡ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਸਾ਼ਖਾ 2003 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕਾਲਜ਼ ਆਫ਼ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ। ਸਤੰਬਰ 2013 ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਸਾ਼ਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਤਤਰ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਜੋ ਬੇਸਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਲਾਇਡ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੀ. ਟੈਕ. (ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲਾ) ਅਤੇ ਬੀ. ਟੈਕ. –ਐਮ.ਬੀ.ਏ. ਇੰਟੀਗਰੇਟਡ (ਛੇ ਸਾਲਾ) ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ (ਫਿਜਿਕਸ), ਰਸਾਇਣ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ (ਕੈਮਿਸਟਰੀ), ਗਣਿਤ (ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ), ਸੰਚਾਰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ (ਕਮਿਊਨੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਕਿੱਲਜ਼) ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ (ਮੈਨੇਜ਼ਮੈਂਟ) ਦੇ ਕੋਰਸ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਅੰਕੜਾ ਗਣਿਤ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ (ਨਿਊਮੈਰੀਕਲ ਮੈਥਡਸ ਅਤੇ ਐਪਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨਜ਼) ਅਤੇ ਓਪਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਹੂਲਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗਸ਼ਾਲਾਵਾਂ (ਲੈਬਜ਼) ਵਿੱਚ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਵਿਸਿ਼ਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਧਾਤਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ (ਥਿਊਰੀ) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-2 ਵਿਹਾਰਿਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ (ਪ੍ਰਕੈਟੀਕਲ) ਉਪਰ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਲਈ ਡਿਜੀਟਲ ਲੈਂਗੂਏਜ਼ ਲੈਬ ਵੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਸਿ਼ਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-2 ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੜਕ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਹਿੱਤ ਬਣਦਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਬੇਸਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਲਾਇਡ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ 26 ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ-2 ਵਿਸਿ਼ਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਹਾਰਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-2 ਪੀਐਚ.ਡੀ. ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਵੀ ਨਿਭਾਅ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ 9 ਗੈਰ-ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਅਤੇ ਟੈਕਨੀਕਲ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਭਾਗੀ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਬਾਖੂਬੀ ਨਿਭਾਅ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
